Take a Margaret Street Stroll....
The Beauty of Lauriston
House is its unique position in the heart of leafy
Margaret Street which is a showpiece of Toowoomba’s
historic past.

Within minutes you can
stroll past Bishops’s House, The old Repertory Theatre,
the beautiful Federation building “Valetta” which
was a unique antique gallery for thirty years and
is now a delightful café where you can sip your cappuccinos
before continuing on past the two storied historic
Sans Souci , now Toowoomba Antique Gallery, displaying
one of the finest collection of sterling silver .

Queens Park is opposite
these lovely old buildings, stroll through the avenue
s of Camphor Laurel trees to the Botanic Gardens
, showpiece of the Carnival of Flowers and beautiful
in any of Toowoomba’s four seasons .

This park is the pride of Toowoomba and since it
was handed over to the Toowoomba City Council in
1865 it has been the place to enjoy family picnics
and appreciate the skill of Toowoomba’s top gardeners
as through the generations they have created a place
of peace and tranquillity for everyone to enjoy.

Pause for a minute at the dignified Mothers Memorial , always
surrounded by beds of roses in memory of the fallen in the
past World Wars and now the more modern addition of memorials
to those serving in the Vietnam War.

Across East Creek waterways and you are in the CBD with
the magnificent buildings of the old Technical College, the
old GPO, built in 1878 adjoining the Court House, established
in the same year. These old sandstone buildings reflect the
Italinate influence of open arched portico’s that suite the
Queensland climate so well.
Cafes, restaurants, specialty shops abound in the section
of Margaret Street intersected by Neil and Ruthven and Victoria
Streets , until you reach the Grand Central shopping Mall
where you can shop until you drop .
